KAMBAKU River Sands is well situated in the heart of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which makes up the western boarder of the Kruger National Park. Without fences inhibiting the free movement of game between the reserves, Timbavati becomes part of a vast unspoilt natural wilderness area that lies within the Greater Kruger National Park.
KAMBAKU (Solitary Bull elephant), takes its name from one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ tuskers who roamed the Kruger Park for the greater part of the last century. These elephant were renowned for their impressive tusks – having at least one tusk with the estimated weight of over 60kg.
Sitting majestically on the banks of a dry river bed, Kambaku River Sands entices the guest to sit back and relax.
This unfenced camp is perfectly situated on a perennial river with continuous free flowing movement of game both big and small through the camp.
Guests at Kambaku River Sands are often afforded a safari experience with a difference from either their own private decks or the main lodge area, with almost daily up close and personal experiences with elephant, buffalo and bushbuck to name but a few.
The main lodge has a spacious lounge with two enormous open fireplaces for the cool winter nights. The bar allows for guests to watch elephants drinking out of the swimming pool while enjoying a cold beer or chilled glass of wine.
Our wine cellar stocked with a selection of South Africa’s best, is ideally positioned to view the waterhole and all the daily four legged regulars.
Co-owner Bryce has added his experience and special flair for wilderness cooking to the scrumptious bush cuisine offered by KAMBAKU and delicious meals in the relaxed and elegant setting of the lodge become memorable occasions where good food is enhanced by good company.
Timbavati is home not only to the Big 5 but also to the famous White Lions of the Timbavati, which cannot be seen anywhere else in the wild. Kambaku is most privileged to be able to afford their guests the best opportunity of viewing the magnificent creatures with both properties falling within the white lion prides territory.
As with Kambaku Safari Lodge the owners Bryce and Nicola have made it their mission to offer a personal guided wildlife experience that endeavours to provide visitors with an up-close -and-personal experience and interaction with the bush and its inhabitants.
Our mission is to provide an unforgettable wildlife experience in a magical environment, so that the legends indeed do linger on in the memory of the guest.
